Poem: “Mirrors”

Silent struggles
Never looking
She nags at me
Surfaces her sleepy head
Critcizes
Measures Judges Annoys
Me until I shut
her back inside
the corner of my mind
.
Thought I had it
Able to go on about
my life
Trying to be carefree
But never looking
She whispers in my mind
see, see, just look
.
Other houses are okay
Mine reflect only the
worst, the ugly, drooping
Bubbling Gorging
Reflecting only the things
She wants me to see
.
Don’t look just float by
You know you can do it
Don’t Feed this Beast
Inside
She’s okay when tucked away
Feed her and she springs to
Devour Life Freedom
Peace Enjoyment Truth
Hunger
.
